Low EMF Infrared Saunas

What does "low EMF" mean in an infrared sauna?

Infrared sauna heaters are electrical, so they produce electromagnetic fields (EMF), mostly magnetic and electric fields from the wiring and heater panels. "Low EMF" saunas use heater and wiring designs that reduce these fields where you sit. Every sauna in this collection is described by its manufacturer as low, ultra low or near zero EMF.

These labels aren't a regulated standard, and brands measure in different ways and at different distances. If EMF is a deciding factor for you, compare the measured values listed on each product page rather than the label alone.

Low, ultra low and near zero EMF

• Low EMF: most of the Dynamic range, many Maxxus models and the Enlighten Sierra and Rustic outdoor saunas.
• Ultra low EMF: Dynamic models such as the Santiago, Cardoba, Marseille, Vila, Bilbao and Llumeneres, plus the HeatWave Yukon and Klondike.
• Near zero EMF: Maxxus near zero models and several Golden Designs saunas, including their full spectrum range.

For how these ratings are measured, read our article on Dynamic sauna EMF ratings.

Indoor or outdoor?

Most of this collection is indoor: 2-4 person cabins from Dynamic, Maxxus and HeatWave, and Golden Designs models up to 6 people. See all indoor infrared saunas. For a garden or deck, the Enlighten Sierra and Rustic models are built for outdoor use, with peak or slope roofs and corner 4C versions. See all outdoor infrared saunas.

Carbon, full spectrum or hybrid heaters

Low EMF designs are available with carbon heaters, which spread gentle heat over large panels, and with full spectrum heaters, which combine near, mid and far infrared. Maxxus "Dual Tech" models pair carbon with ceramic heaters (see ceramic heater saunas).
