What is a steam shower?

A steam shower is a sealed shower enclosure with a built-in steam generator, so you can use it as a normal shower or close the doors and turn it into a small steam room. The units in this collection are all-in-one enclosures: glass walls, a base or tub, a seat, shower heads and controls come together as one kit.

Walk-in, corner or jetted tub

• Walk-in steam showers have a flat shower base. Mesa's WS-300, WS-301A, WS-302, WS-502L and WS-801 models start around 36 x 36 inches, and Athena's walk-in units range from a 40 x 40 inch 1-person model to 2-person models up to 59 x 59 inches with body jets.
• Corner steam showers fit into a corner of the bathroom, such as the Platinum DZ963F8 (39 x 39 inches).
• Jetted tub steam showers combine the steam enclosure with a whirlpool tub, so you can bathe as well as steam. Mesa makes 1-person tub models and 2-person models such as the WS-608 and WS-701.

How to choose

Measure the space

Every product name lists the outside dimensions (length x width x height). Check the floor area, the ceiling height and the width of doorways and hallways the panels need to pass through.

1 or 2 people

Most models here are 1-person. For two, look at the 2-person Mesa jetted tub models and the Athena WS-121, WS-122 and WS-131. The Cabin Capacity filter above narrows the list.

Installation

A steam shower needs a water supply, a drain and an electrical connection for the steam generator. Check each product page for the electrical requirements, and plan on a licensed plumber and electrician for the hookup. Price

Prices run from about $2,200 for a compact Mesa walk-in unit to about $6,100 for the 2-person Athena WS-122. Jetted tub models generally cost more than walk-in models of a similar size.
